FRED TORNEDEN
Collegiate Career
-Repeat winner of the Jayhawk Conference 5000m run at Butler Community College
-Four-time NAIA All-American and National Indoor track 3-mile champion at Ft Hays State
-National NAIA runner-up 26.2 mile marathon in debut race
-Inducted into the Ft. Hays State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002

Marathon Career
-In 1982, set the record for the fastest marathon ever run in Kansas, which still stands (2:18:08)
-Won the 1984 Twin Cities Marathon
-Personal best of 2:11:35
-Posted second best time by an American that year
-Set the American record for 20 miles
-Won 1984 Hospital Hill half-marathon (1:05:14)
-Won Couples Classic 8K in Wichita with a time of 23:27 in 1983
-Selected to a U.S. National Team to compete in the 1985 World Cup Marathon in Hiroshima, Japan

-Volunteer Coach University of Texas in Austin (1988-1990)
-Women's cross country/track and field programs
-Won a NCAA National Indoor track & field team title in 1990
-Head Coach Butler Community College (7 years)
-Coached 20 individuals to NJCAA national championships
-Coached Melvin Lister (two-time U.S. Olympian in the triple jump and long jump)
-Won four national distance relay titles
-Holds current National Outdoor meet record for the 4x800m relay (7:20.48) set in 1999
-Won NJCAA National Cross Country team title in 1995
-Named National Coach of the Year (1995)

-Resumed racing in 2017 after 30-year hiatus from competition
-Six-time Kansas Runner of the Year
-2023 USATF Masters Road Mile National Champion (65-69 age group) (5:19)
-2023 USATF Masters Outdoor Track and Field 5000m National Champion (65-69 age group)
-2024 USATF Masters Indoor Track and Field 4x800m National Champions (65+) (New World Record)
DEB TORNEDEN
Collegiate Career
-Competed for Kansas State University 800m, 1500m and 3000m
-Four-time NCAA All-American
-Won eight Big 8 conference individual titles
-Named the Most Outstanding Performer at the Big 8 Indoor track and field championships (1984)
-Holds the current K-State school records for
-Indoor mile (4:39.06)
-Outdoor 3000m (9:09.60)
-Inducted into the Kansas State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004

-Placed sixth at the 1984 U.S. National Track and Field Championships in the 1500m run (4:12.94)
-Qualified for the Olympic Trials on the track in 1984
-Qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials in 1992, 1996 and 2000

-1992 Seoul Korea Road Relay
-1994 Beijing China International Ekiden (marathon relay)
